Steve is a member of our Corporate Risk Management Team. He brings more than 33 years of highly-regarded legal experience and seasoned judgment to BartlettJames, LLC. He compliments his legal expertise with a unique and proven business acumen. Throughout his legal career, he concentrated his practice in business and insurance operations: risk management, commercial property, entity structure, and professional liability. He is also an adjunct to the BartlettJames Higher Education Team, with a particular emphasis on the issues unique to intercollegiate athletics Steve is based in Michigan.
Steve has been a co-founder and managing partner of a national firm, president and CEO of a software company, CEO of a professional development company, founder of an interstate transportation and logistics company, and chairman of a non-profit senior center where he served on the Finance Committee. He has created business and administrative operations for one of the top four national market leaders in the property insurance industry, a company processing 2,000 large loss claims annually, and he has negotiated and implemented a strategic alliance program of more than 8,000 independent financial advisors.
Steve is a past member of TEC/Vistage, the world’s largest member organization of CEOs. He was trained as a Vistage Group Chair to form business peer advisory boards. He is also admitted to practice law in Illinois, before the U.S. Supreme Court, and in United States District Courts in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, and Wisconsin.
Steve is a graduate of the DePaul University School of Law. He is listed in the Millennium Edition of Who’s Who in Executives and Business, a member of Lawyers of Distinction as a top lawyer in Illinois, and a recipient of the Martindale Hubble Client Distinction Award given to one percent of the lawyers in the country. He completed the Litigation Management Institute hosted at the Columbia University Law School in New York by the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, receiving the Litigation Management Professional certification (CLMP). At the time, less than 300 attorneys had the CLMP designation nationwide.
